Shruikan the red nosed dragon.
Had a very shiny flame
And if you ever saw it
He’s just really really pissed off
All of the other dragons
Used to laugh and call him insane
They never let poor Shruikan
Join in any dragon sex
Then one foggy Elfmas eve
Galby came to say
Shruikan with your nose so bright
Won’t you kill Eragon tonight
Then how the dragons shunned him,
and they burned him up with glee!
Shruikan the red nosed dragon,
he’ll go down in Alagaesian history!
((Yeah I know there’s grammar/punctuation errors, I’m just too lazy to fix ‘em))

How about you guys?

No, it is not exactly like Star Wars. No, it is not exactly like The Lord of the Rings. I would know, I’m a fan of both of those things, and no, it’s also not an equal combination of both.
What it is is it’s own story, with it’s own characters, with their own struggles. If you try hard enough, you could find parallels in anything for anything. But just saying it doesn’t make it so. And in any book you read, or any movie you watch, you can find things that relate to other stories, sure…Because the people who create such worlds must get their inspiration somewhere. But it does not mean it was copied, or unoriginal. It means nothing at all.
The Inheritance Cycle is adventurous and chaotic and beautiful and tragic. It’s about friendships, and family. Loyalty and love. It’s about good and evil. It’s about fighting for what you believe in, and doing anything it takes to protect the ones you love. It’s about discovering who you are. It’s about inheritance, and trying to live up to expectations. It’s about doing the best you can with what you are given. It’s about bravery and fear and acceptance. It’s about things lost and things found. It’s about war. And it’s about hope.
The Inheritance Cycle is a beautiful series, and to all of those people out there hating on it, do you really think you could do anything better? Honestly. I’d love to see you write something half as interesting as Eragon, at the age of 15, get it published, and have a beautiful loving family of fans who adore you and it with every fiber of their being…yeah, that’s not going to happen. What’s the point anyways, of hating on something. If you don’t like it, then you don’t like it. But you don’t need to go on and on about it, because you will never undermine the love the Inherifamily has for this series. Whatever point you were trying to make, you didn’t.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion of course, but I don’t appreciate people ranting on about how this series is unoriginal and copied and poorly written, when in truth, it’s not unoriginal, or copied, and it’s writing is so intensely wonderful is blows my mind. When I don’t like something, I don’t tell people how much it sucks and what is wrong with it, because just because I don’t like something, doesn’t mean it isn’t good. It might not be to my liking, but that doesn’t change the fact that people do like it, and it might actually be good, just not to me. So stating your opinion as fact is kind of annoying.
What I’m trying to say is that I love The Inheritance Cycle more than you can imagine. And I’m constantly seeing extremely negative opinions, that make me wonder if we even read the same books…
Sorry for ranting, but these books are a big part of my life and who I am, so I can’t help but be overly defensive about it.
